BFF your liver with lemon water!

I love the term BFF, Best Friend Forever.  When I was in school we called our best friends “Be Fri’s” and wore necklaces that were hearts broken in half and one side said “Be” and the other side said “Fri” and you would each wear one.  (Callin all my 80’s peeps out there!)  Awww school days and Be Fri’s…great memories! I still have those Be Fri’s in my life but I also have a new one…my liver.

I like to treat my liver right because when I do, my body functions at full capacity.  One way I treat my new BFF is to add some lemon to my water.  It helps my liver remove the many free radicals (toxins) produced when filtering the bloodstream because lemons are high in Vitamin C which is quite a powerful antioxidant!

Once the filtration has happened, the toxins just naturally filter out over a lengthy period of time.  But when you add Vitamin C to this equation, this powerful antioxidant will neutralize these free radicals and improve your overall health.

Vitamin C also helps with inflammation!  I’ve been focusing on anti-inflammatory foods lately since I was in so much pain last week and I gotta tell you, I feel so much better this week and even ran 5 miles this morning without any pain!

But just how much should you drink and what kind of lemons?  I add in 1 tablespoon to a mug of warm water in the morning and then add in another tablespoon to a glass of water (12-16 oz) before dinner as it will also help with digestion.  I love using Meyer lemons because they are sweeter.

Bottoms up and cheers!  😉
